It is with great pleasure that I announce to you the release of a new series of books focusing on showcasing some of the most influential, rarely (if ever) seen stories & articles that appeared in magazines (specifically, so-called Men’s Adventure Magazines, such as Saga, Argosy, MEN, etc.), and a look at how they influenced the field of cryptozoology, including looks at seminal pieces about Bigfoot, Yeti, Loch Ness and other ‘monsters’ of crypto lore and research!

About Bob Deis: In his younger days, Robert Deis explored various options for making a living. Among other things, he worked as a teacher, an artist, a musician, a logger in the Maine woods, a magazine writer and a state government bureaucrat. Eventually (by accident rather than design) he fell into a long-lasting career as a political consultant. Nowadays, he blogs and writes about things that interest him, such as famous quotations and men’s adventure magazines. Bob grew up in the decades when men’s adventure magazines were flourishing, but he didn’t take much notice of them until he read the 2004 book Men’s Adventure Magazines , which features the amazing art and magazine collection of Rich Oberg. That inspired him to start collecting and studying men’s adventure magazines. In 2009, he created the MensPulpMags.com blog. Through that, he met other fans of the genre, including Rich Oberg, Wyatt Doyle and Josh Alan Friedman, who all agree that what the world needs now is greater exposure to the wild, weird world of men’s adventure pulp fiction and pulp art. Bob now lives on a small island in the Florida Keys with his wife Barbara Jo, who graciously tolerates his messy stacks of musty magazines.
About Dave Coleman: Dave Coleman has written screenplays for such studios as Universal, Sony, and DEG,and Hollywood talent such as Michael Douglas, Phil Noyce, Dan Curtis, Dino De Laurentiis, Irv Kershner, and many others. He has also previously worked as a story analyst for New World, London Films, The Samuel Goldwyn Company, and The New Twilight Zone t.v. series.
Prior to the start of his professional career, Coleman attended the University of Southern California, where he received a BFA in Filmic Writing. His instructors and mentors included T.C. Boyle, André de Toth, Stewart Stern, and Abraham Polonsky. He also interned on the feature film At Close Range during this time with director James Foley.
As an early Internet enthusiast, Coleman created Kudzu New Media, a website design firm, designing and hosting some of the earliest internet-supported studio movies such as Adrian Lyne’s Lolita, Tim Roth’s The War Room, Samuel Goldwyn’s Desert Blue, and many others. He also created Bijou Cafe.com, one of the first independent videostreaming websites, and wrote a majority of the site’s in-depth cult film reviews. The critical success cited by WIRED, ABC World News, RedFilter, US News & World Report, and many others lead to the successful creation of BijouFlix Releasing, which has released independent and classic cult movies worldwide since 1998.
Coleman’s latest non-fiction work, ‘The Bipolar Express: Manic Depression and the Movies’ is now available from Scarecrow Press. A look at the intertwined history of movies and mental illness, it features in-depth examinations of the films and filmmakers who have overcome and channeled their bipolar disorder into their creative output. His previous reference book ‘The Bigfoot Filmography’ was published by McFarland in 2012. An in-depth survey of Cine du Sasquatch, the book includes reviews of every Bigfoot t.v. and movie, rare photos and poster reproductions, and interviews with key filmmakers in the genre.
About Wyatt Doyle: A founding contributor to the NewTexture.com website, Wyatt Doyle is the author of STOP REQUESTED, illustrated by Stanley J. Zappa.
He is co-editor and designer of the WEASELS RIPPED MY FLESH! anthology, which includes contributions by Harlan Ellison, Bruce Jay Friedman, Lawrence Block and Mario Puzo. He followed WEASELS with HE-MEN, BAG MEN & NYMPHOS, a collection of vintage pulp fiction by Walter Kaylin.
Editor and designer of most New Texture releases (and Josh Alan Friedman’s BLACK CRACKER for his own imprint), his original screenplay with Jason Cuadrado, I’M HERE FOR YOU, has been filmed as DEVIL MAY CALL.
I NEED REAL TUXEDO AND A TOP HAT!, a collection of his photographs and stories, is forthcoming from New Texture.
